Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas has expressed his opposition to the establishment of state police, emphasizing that the current security agencies are competent enough to handle the nation’s security challenges. He made this statement on Tuesday during a meeting with Gen. L G. Leptang, the Commandant of Army Operation Whirl Stroke responsible for Nasarawa, Benue, and Taraba states, at the Government House in Jalingo, the state capital.
Governor Kefas, drawing from his experience serving in the Nigerian military, affirmed his confidence in the capabilities of the Nigerian Army and other security agencies to ensure national security. He emphasized the importance of providing them with the necessary support and conducive environment to effectively carry out their duties.
Regarding security measures, Kefas disclosed that his government is collaborating with neighbouring states and the Republic of Cameroon to establish a unified approach to address security issues along their borders. This collaboration aims to enhance security efforts and apprehend criminals, ensuring peaceful living conditions for law-abiding citizens.
Gen. L G. Leptang, during the meeting, informed the Governor about challenges faced by the operation and sought possible solutions, highlighting the ongoing dialogue and cooperation between security agencies and state governments to address security concerns effectively.
