Isaiah Jirapye Magaji, the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Taraba State, has issued a public apology regarding recent controversies surrounding the organization’s involvement in politics. The apology, conveyed in a statement released to journalists in Jalingo, the state capital, on Wednesday, addresses the confusion that arose from CAN’s communication, particularly regarding the candidacy of Innocent Umaru Jabanya of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) for the Jalingo, Yorro, Zing Federal constituency.

Magaji clarified CAN’s role as the political arm of the church, emphasizing its responsibility to unify churches, foster mutual respect among Christians, and provide guidance when necessary. He formally apologized to both the Church and the public for any misunderstandings that may have occurred.

He reassured the Christian community of CAN’s steadfast focus on the church’s interests and reiterated the organization’s commitment to unity. Regarding the SDP candidate, Magaji stated that CAN had appealed to him to withdraw his candidacy to promote unity.

In light of heightened tensions and political activities in Taraba State, Magaji called for peace and unity among Christians and encouraged voters to participate in the ongoing supplementary elections peacefully and wisely.
