Hassan Jauro, the Taraba State chairman of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), has issued a warning against the misappropriation of the recently distributed subsidized fertilizer in the state. Responding to allegations of diversion and sale of federal government palliatives meant for the 16 local government areas across the state, Jauro emphasized the need for proper supervision and monitoring of the subsidized fertilizer’s sale to farmers for the 2024 rainy season farming.
Jauro urged committee members and local government chairmen to exhibit heightened commitment in ensuring that the subsidized fertilizer reaches targeted farmers at the designated lower price. He noted that each local government area received a specific number of bags of fertilizer at a subsidized rate, with the exception of Wukari, which received a larger allocation. The subsidized rates set by the governor are aimed at making Urea available at N23,000 (as opposed to its market price of N46,000) and NPK at N11,000 (compared to its market price of N22,000).
Furthermore, Jauro emphasized the governor’s directive to limit the allocation to a maximum of five bags per individual and ensure that the distribution is targeted towards genuine farmers. He highlighted Governor Agbu Kefas’s commitment to supporting farmers in the state by providing agricultural inputs.
Jauro called for maximum support from the chairmen, expressing his determination as ALGON’s head in the state to back Agbu Kefas’s agricultural policies, which include mechanizing agriculture and creating an enabling environment for farming expansion.
