Taraba State House of Assembly, has presented the bill for the establishment of Taraba State Geographic Information system (TAGIS) for public hearing.
The bill that went through the first and second reading in the assembly had received a public hearing before the House Committee on Transport, Disaster Management, Land and Survey, as well as stakeholders and civil society organizations. Addressing the committee, the Director General TAGIS. Dr. Mark Joshua said, the bill will maintain land administration and management in the state, provide unique GIS services, process and issues certificate of Occupancy, and maintaining of Geographic information system data and land formation.
Mark added that, the TAGIS is revenue generating base, and a unique opportunity to address land dispute, provide digital security surveillance to tackle insecurity in the state.
In the same vein, the member of the public hearing committee, who double as the chairman, Hon. John Lamba, member representing Takum two in Taraba State House of Assembly, said the committee will harmonized the opinion to ensure the bill is properly structure and presented for the effective land Administration in the state.
He further disclosed that the passage of the bill would help address the issue of land administration in the state.
According to him, the bill is the first of its kind for the land management in the state.
John expressed his profound appreciation to the initiators of the bill, and assure the public that the bill will open new chapters in addressing some challenges on land matters, and correct all wrongs in past and present. The participants who attended the public hearing of the bill include: stakeholders and civil society organizations, members of academic institutions and youths leaders, respectively.
