The Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has restated his administration’s dedication to lessening the effects of climate change throughout the state. He also committed to addressing urgent economic issues and promoting sustainable land management practices.
Speaking over the weekend at the Federal University Wukari during the commencement of a two-million-tree planting initiative featuring various economic tree species, the governor emphasized the critical role of trees for both humanity and the environment. Represented by his deputy, Alhaji Abdullahi Aminu Alkali, he described the event as a significant step toward environmental sustainability, conservation, and economic growth.
The governor highlighted that planting two million economic trees showcases a collective effort to tackle economic challenges, encourage sustainable land use practices, and mitigate the impacts of climate change in Taraba. He further elaborated that the Green Taraba project reflects his administration’s commitment to preserving natural resources and enhancing economic resilience.
Supporting the governor’s stance, the Commissioner of Environment and Climate Change, Aishat Abdulazeez Barde, affirmed the ministry’s readiness to undertake afforestation initiatives across all 16 local government areas of the state. This initiative aims to minimize the adverse effects of climate change through extensive tree planting campaigns.
