The recent killings of two farmers in the Yangtu Special Development Area of southern Taraba State have plunged the community into sorrow and fear. The incident occurred early on Tuesday, leaving the community in shock and despair.

Habila Timothy, the former representative of Ussa Local Government Area, confirmed the tragic news in a solemn telephone interview with Taraba News. The victims, hailing from Kpambo village in Ussa, were attacked while tending to their farmlands in Kwambai, a border town between the local government and the development area.

Timothy described the community as being in a state of disarray, with women and children crying and a palpable sense of fear gripping the area. He emphasized the urgent need for assistance to restore peace, expressing concerns about the safety of evacuation routes.

In response to the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Abdullahi Usman, stated in a telephone interview with Taraba News that the report had not yet reached the desk of the divisional police officer in Yangtu. However, he assured the public that measures are being taken to address the menace of banditry in the state.

This tragic event occurred just days after the brutal murder of 11 farmers in the same special development area, indicating a worrying trend of violence in the region. The relentless attacks have prompted residents to flee their homes, leaving behind desolate communities where farming activities, schools, and social interactions have come to a standstill.

Affected residents have sought refuge in makeshift shelters located in the Yangtu Special Development Area, as well as in Ussa and Takum local government areas. The situation underscores the urgent need for security intervention and measures to protect the lives and livelihoods of residents in the affected areas.
