The fifth Taraba Tiv Supreme Council, commonly known as Ijiir Tamen, made an appeal to Governor Agbu Kefas on Sunday, urging him to prioritize the resettlement of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and to ensure sufficient security in farming communities across the state to safeguard food production.

This appeal was articulated in a communique released at the conclusion of the fifth Supreme Council and the 23rd Tiv Day Cultural Celebration held at the Tiv Council Hall in Bali, Bali Local Government Area of Taraba State.

Signed by the Chairman of the council, Zaki David Gbaa, and the Secretary, Zaki Nelson Targema, the communique was disseminated to journalists in Jalingo.

According to the document, the supreme council expressed gratitude for the governor’s dedication to preserving peace and fostering a harmonious environment for all residents. The council urged Governor Agbu Kefas to expedite the return of displaced individuals to their original homes and to implement security measures that would enable farmers to access their farmlands, thereby ensuring food security.

Furthermore, the council commended the governor for appointing Habu James Philip as a commissioner in his cabinet and Mrs. Mercy Gbashi as the Secretary of Donga Local Government Council. It also called for the future appointment of more Tiv individuals to key positions within the government.

Additionally, the council emphasized the importance of the state government providing agricultural inputs to farmers as a means of incentivizing increased food production for both the state and the nation.

The communique concluded by urging all Tiv stakeholders and traditional rulers across various local government areas in Taraba State to promptly caution their subjects against criminal activities and to prioritize vigilance and security consciousness.
