The Taraba State Police Command announced on Friday that it had engaged and neutralized over 50 armed bandits in Bali Local Government Area.
According to Abdullahi Usman, the command’s spokesperson, the operation was conducted in response to intelligence indicating that a large group of suspected bandits had invaded Tonti village with intentions of carrying out mass kidnappings.
Usman stated, “The Taraba State Police Command received information that some unknown gunmen suspected to be kidnappers in their hundreds invaded Tonti village under Maihula District in Bali LGA, Taraba State. The bandits invaded the village around 5:30 a.m. during the Muslim morning prayers and began shooting indiscriminately.”

Upon receiving the information, the Commissioner of Police for Taraba State, Joseph Eribo, promptly ordered the deployment of a tactical team from the Bali Division to the area, in collaboration with the Army, Vigilante groups, and local hunters.
Upon reaching the village, the joint team engaged the bandits in a fierce gun battle. As a result, many of the bandits were neutralized, while others managed to escape with various gunshot injuries. The police command has since deployed a special striking force to the area to bolster security and prevent further attacks by the bandits on neighboring villages.
The Commissioner assured the citizens of Taraba State of his commitment to protecting their lives and property, and restoring the peaceful coexistence that the state is known for, thus facilitating meaningful development. Investigations revealed that over fifty bandits were neutralized in the operation, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining fleeing bandits.
