Vice President Kashim Shettima has urged Nigerian doctors to remain in the country and support the Tinubu-led administration’s efforts to revitalize the nation. During a visit from the National Executive Committee of the Nigerian Medical Association, led by newly elected President Prof. Bala Audu, on June 11 at the Presidential Villa, Shettima made this appeal. In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Media & Communications, Stanley Nkwocha, on June 12, Shettima addressed the growing trend of doctors leaving the country, known as the Japa Syndrome, and asked them to stay and contribute to national development. He emphasized President Tinubu’s concern for their welfare and praised the doctors’ dedication despite attractive opportunities abroad. Shettima commended the significant progress made by Nigerian doctors and their sacrifices in improving healthcare. He encouraged the NMA to motivate young doctors to specialize in essential medical fields and to combat the issue of unqualified practitioners.
