Zakari Sanusi, a member representing the Ibi Constituency in the Taraba State House of Assembly, reported that suspected Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) terrorists executed three out of 12 abducted fishermen. Speaking to DAILY NIGERIAN on Thursday, Mr. Sanusi said the abduction occurred on Sunday in the Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Mr. Sanusi stated that the victims, his constituents, were en route to Osamala village for their long-established fish farming business when they encountered the terrorists. The victims included 12 males and five females, among them two children. The terrorists have since contacted the victims’ relatives, demanding a ransom of N20 million.
“The incident happened on Monday. The farmers were attacked in Ugwaru, near Onitsha, while traveling in an 18-seater bus,” Mr. Sanusi explained. “The terrorists gruesomely slaughtered three people on the spot. They released the females and children and took the remaining nine males into the forest. Their whereabouts are currently unknown, but the gunmen have reached out, demanding a ransom of N20 million. We are therefore appealing to the federal government to intervene and secure the release of the captives and ensure those killed unjustifiably get justice,” Mr. Sanusi pleaded.
