At its 30th Annual Conference and General Meeting, held at Kebbi State University of Science and Technology, Aliero, the Botanical Society of Nigeria bestowed its highest honor, the Fellow Nigeria Society of Botanists (FNSB) award, on four esteemed members for their significant contributions to the field of botany.
The new fellows are:
- Prof. S. P. Bako
- Prof. O. T. Ogundipe
- Prof. G. O. Ajibade
- Prof. B. L. Nyananyo
Among them, Prof. S. P. Bako, the current Vice-Chancellor of Taraba State University, Jalingo, stands out for his distinguished academic career. He has mentored over 12 professors and supervised approximately 30 Ph.D. theses at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and other universities in Nigeria and abroad. His scholarly contributions include over 150 publications in books, international, and domestic journals. Prof. Bako is also a regular participant and contributor to numerous conferences and seminars, demonstrating his dedication to advancing botanical sciences.
The FNSB award acknowledges the outstanding academic achievements and contributions of these individuals to botany, emphasizing their commitment to education, research, and mentorship. Through such recognitions, the Botanical Society of Nigeria aims to promote excellence in botanical research and education, encouraging further growth and development in the discipline.
