A Sunday attack on the farming communities of Mararaban Azagwa and Alele in Bali Local Government Area of Taraba State has claimed six lives, while several other people sustained injuries. The attack, reportedly carried out by suspected herdsmen, has thrown the entire community into panic. The Chairman of the Taraba State Tiv Traditional Council, Zaki David Gbaa, who spoke to newsmen, said a 92-year-old man was among the casualties.

He however, commended the swift response of security operatives.

He listed the names of the deceased as Aondohemba Salemkaan, Tersuugh Dondo, Terkuma Mbatim, Kumaga Ujam, Asaaga Nev, and Tersoo Memga.

It was gathered that a herder reportedly died on his way home in one of the villages, and the deceased herder’s relatives, acting on suspicion of the farming community’s culpability in their brother’s death, launched the attack.

When contacted, the spokesperson of the Taraba State Police Command, DSP Gambo Kwache, said the police have a record of two casualties.

She also explained that normalcy has been restored and the injured are receiving medical care at Bali General Hospital.
