Dear Honourable Commissioners,
I hope this letter finds you well, and I write to express my humble advice on an important matter that I believe will not only serve the interests of the people of Taraba State but also leave a lasting legacy for your constituencies and local government.
First, I address Barrister Zainab Usman, the Honourable Commissioner of Information and Communication. Your leadership in the media and communication sector holds the potential to transform Taraba State into a center of media excellence. By initiating the establishment of the Taraba State Institute of Public Relations and Media, one of its kind in Nigeria, you can create a groundbreaking institution that would provide professional training for social media bloggers, influencers, media aides, and other media professionals. This would equip them with the necessary skills to thrive in the digital space, while also generating income and employment opportunities for the youth. Your constituency, and indeed the state, will benefit from such an institution that not only boosts professionalism but also raises Taraba’s media standards.
To Hajiya Aisha Barde, the Honourable Commissioner of Environment and Climate Change from Zing LGA, I urge you to consider leading the development of a Maze garden in Yorro. As the first of its kind in Nigeria, this project would be an incredible eco-tourism attraction, drawing tourists from across the country and beyond. It would provide a source of revenue for the local government and the state and also foster environmental education, create jobs, and promote sustainable tourism. This is an opportunity to put Zing LGA on the map as a key destination for nature lovers and tourists, bringing pride and development to your people.
Honourable Bernard Shonzen, Commissioner of Waste Management and Innovation from Zing LGA, your role places you at the forefront of tackling waste management challenges. A waste-to-energy project in Zing would be a visionary step, transforming waste into renewable energy. Not only would this project generate much-needed revenue through the sale of electricity or biogas, but it would also provide job opportunities for the community. By addressing waste sustainably, you would ensure cleaner environments, healthier communities, and an innovative economy for Zing LGA and Taraba State.
To Honourable Muslim Aruwa, Commissioner of Science and Technology from Gassol LGA, I advise you to consider establishing a world-class ICT and Computer-Based Testing (CBT) center in Gassol. Such a center would become a hub for digital education and development, offering training and certifications in ICT skills like software development and data analysis. It could also host major exams like JAMB, attracting candidates from across the region. This project would not only generate revenue but also equip the youth of Gassol with valuable digital skills, positioning them for success in the growing tech economy.
Finally, Honourable Commissioner of Water Resources and Aquatic Life from Ibi LGA, I suggest an impactful project in the form of a fish farming and aquaculture initiative. Given the aquatic resources available in Ibi, this project would be a perfect fit, creating jobs for fishermen, farm managers, and processing staff. With a focus on sustainable fish production, this initiative would generate income for the local government and contribute to food security, while making Ibi a leading supplier of fish in the region.
While these suggestions may seem ambitious, I firmly believe that these are the types of projects that will have a lasting impact on your constituencies. Minor jobs and temporary relief are not enough to address the long-term needs of the people. Having substantial constituency projects that drive development, create jobs, and generate revenue will be a true testament to your leadership.
It’s also important to note that not all development should be concentrated in Jalingo. Every local government, no matter how rural, deserves to benefit from impactful projects that can elevate the living standards of the people. With your influence, these projects can serve as a model for others across the state.
May God guide you as you continue to serve Taraba State, and may your efforts be rewarded with success and blessings. I also encourage other commissioners to take inspiration from these ideas and do the needful in their respective local governments.
God bless Taraba State and its people.
Yours Sincerely
Abdulhakeem Idris
