Dr. Sanusi Mahmud Muhammad has been appointed the new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Upper Benue River Basin Development Authority by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
A distinguished professional from Jalingo Local Government Area in Taraba State, Dr. Sanusi brings a wealth of experience and expertise to this pivotal role, aiming to enhance sustainable development within the basin.
Political Engagement and Leadership
Dr. Sanusi’s involvement with the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) demonstrates his active engagement in Nigeria’s political landscape. He played a significant role in the 2023 general elections, serving on the Security and Intelligence Committee of the Independent Campaign Council for President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shetima.
His leadership extended to participating in the Renewed Hope Concert, organized by Sheyi Tinubu, and the City Boy Movement campaign team, where he worked tirelessly to galvanize support for the APC.
From October 2022 to January 2023, he served as Deputy Director of Security and Intelligence for the Amalgamated APC Support Groups (AASG) before becoming Director of Finance and Accounting.
His roles in these organizations highlight his strategic leadership abilities and his capacity to manage complex operations effectively. Additionally, as Director of Strategy and Planning for the APC National Youth Vanguard, he has demonstrated a commitment to empowering youth and promoting inclusive governance.

Dr. Sanusi’s academic credentials are impressive. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Disaster Management and Safety Science and holds a degree in Geography from Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) in Zaria. He furthered his education with a Postgraduate Diploma in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing, a Master’s degree in Disaster and Risk Management, and another in Development Studies. This robust educational foundation equips him with the necessary tools to navigate the complexities of environmental and developmental challenges in the region.

Beyond his academic prowess, Dr. Sanusi is deeply committed to agricultural development. As an active member of the Board of Trustees of the Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria (RIFAN), he advocates for policies and initiatives that support farmers and promote food security.
