President Bola Tinubu is set to meet with the Organised Labour on Thursday in Abuja to discuss a new minimum wage for Nigerian workers.

The meeting, scheduled to hold at the Aso Villa, will see the President deliberating with the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) on the proposed minimum wage.

The development was disclosed by a top labour source on Wednesday.

The discussion with labour leaders will centre on the ₦62,000 proposal from the government and private sector, as well as the ₦250,000 demand from the Organised Labour.

This meeting comes a month after the President’s Democracy Day speech, where he promised to send an executive bill on the new national minimum wage to the National Assembly for passage.

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) had earlier stepped down consideration of the memo on the new minimum wage to allow for further engagement with stakeholders. Subsequently, the President and Vice President Kashim Shettima met with state governors and ministers to deliberate on a new minimum wage.
