The Taraba State Government has taken a significant step towards enhancing science education by distributing mobile science laboratory equipment kits to schools across the state. This initiative is part of a broader effort to improve the quality of science and technology education and address the shortage of laboratory facilities in many schools.
The mobile labs, developed to support the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), are equipped with essential tools and resources to conduct practical science experiments. Each lab includes a gas cylinder, drawers, cabinets, an acid-proof sink, power sockets, illumination lamps, fire extinguishers, and stools. They are designed to be portable, allowing them to be easily moved and used in different classrooms as needed.
The distribution of mobile science laboratory equipment kits in Taraba state commenced with an official ceremony at Nyamusala Primary School in Jalingo.
His Excellency Dr Agbu Kefas, who was represented by his Deputy Alhaji Aminu Abdullahi Alkali, who formally launched the distribution.
The event was attended by key government officials, including the Commissioner for Science and Technology, Muslim Abdullahi Usman and with Barr Zainab Usman Jalingo and other distinguished guests present, Commissioners who coordinate the event emphasized that the initiative aims to identify and nurture young scientific talents from an early age. The Commissioner highlighted the government’s plan to construct a science and technology village and a gifted school to further develop these talents.
Governor Agbu Kefas reiterated the state’s commitment to redefining its science and technology ecosystem. He noted that these mobile labs would provide students with the necessary tools to excel in their studies and contribute to the state’s technological advancement in the future.
The mobile labs are expected to have a transformative impact on science education in Taraba State. They will enable students to engage in hands-on learning experiences, fostering a deeper understanding of scientific concepts and principles. By providing these resources, the state aims to enhance students’ practical skills and motivate them to pursue careers in science and technology.
One of the students, Simon Teheme, expressed his excitement about the new equipment. He demonstrated a solar boiler he built, showing the potential of these labs to inspire innovation and creativity among students.
The state government plans to expand this initiative, ensuring that all schools in Taraba State are equipped with modern science labs. This effort is part of a larger strategy to improve the overall education system and prepare students for future challenges in science and technology.
