On Saturday, Dr. Agbu Kefas, the Governor of Taraba State, led a one-kilometer fitness walk in Jalingo, the state’s capital, in observance of the 2023 Olympic day. Following the exercise, the governor highlighted the aim of rejuvenating the sporting spirit in Taraba, involving the youth, and harnessing their potential for further development.
Governor Kefas emphasized his commitment to revitalizing all sporting activities in the state and refurbishing sports facilities. He stressed that in sports, there should be no discrimination based on religion or ethnicity, and he believed that reinvigorating sports in Taraba could serve as a unifying strategy, quelling internal disputes among ethnic groups and reducing criminal activities.

“The youth will be actively engaged, and we will leverage their potential for the state’s advancement. Our sporting facilities will be upgraded to international standards, fostering an environment where our teams can competently face any global competition,” expressed Governor Kefas.
In response, Honorable John Kizito Bonzena, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, and Chief G.T Kataps, the Secretary to the Government of the State (SGS), hailed the fitness walk as a symbol of the impending resurgence of Taraba’s greatness. They pledged unwavering support to Governor Kefas in his efforts to restore Taraba to its former glory and enhance the standard of living for its citizens.
