Five people were confirmed dead in attacks on Wednesday in two different communities in Taraba State. The incidents happened in the Gashaka and Wukari local government areas.
In Gashaka, three people were killed in Mayo-Sabere in the Mai-Idanu ward. The victims were identified as Mallam Adamu Yahya, 70, Abdu Yahaya, 52, and Nuhu Yahya, 42. Meanwhile, in Wukari, two farmers were killed in the Rafin-Kada community. Their identities were not known at the time of reporting.
Wukari council chairman, Ismaila Dauda, confirmed that the attack on the farmers was carried out by Tiv militias and expressed his condolences. He urged the community to refrain from retaliatory actions, assuring that local authorities and security forces were working to apprehend the attackers.
Sources from Gashaka indicated that, in addition to the fatalities, several people were injured in the attack, which they blamed on rangers from Gumti National Park.
Acting Police Public Relations Officer, Gambo Kwache, confirmed the incidents, stating that both cases are under investigation and efforts to catch the perpetrators are ongoing.
