Professor Aisha Maikudi has been announced as the acting Vice Chancellor of the University of Abuja. At 41 years, she becomes the youngest ever acting VC of the institution.
Maikudi succeeds Professor Abdulrasheed Na’allah, the institution’s sixth Vice Chancellor, whose tenure will end on June 30.
The senate approved her appointment pending the selection of a substantive Vice Chancellor by the university’s governing council.
In her acceptance speech, Maikudi expressed gratitude to members of the Senate for the confidence reposed in her.
She said, “I want to extend my deepest respect and appreciation to you all for the strong support and the unwavering commitment that you have accorded me.”
Maikudi served as the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academics before her new role as acting VC.

1. Aisha was born on January 31st, 1983 in Zaria, Kaduna State.
2. She hails from Katsina State.
3. She attended Queens College, Lagos where she obtained her WASSCE.
4. She obtained her LLB degree from the University of Reading, UK, her LLM from the London School of Economics, UK, BL from the Nigeria Law School, Abuja, and her Ph.D from the University of Abuja, Nigeria.
5. She did her mandatory National Youth Service Corps at the Corporate Secretariat and Legal Division of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation in 2007.
6. In 2008, Aisha became a Lecturer 2 at the University of Abuja.
7. She is a woman of many firsts some of which include:
The first female and youngest Head of Department, Faculty of Law in 2014.
The first female and youngest Vice Dean of the Faculty of Law in 2018
The youngest Professor of the University of Abuja and one of the youngest professors in Nigeria
The first female Professor of Law in the North West and the University of Abuja
pioneer Director, University of Abuja International Centre in 2019.
8. She has written extensively on United Nations Law which is her specialization. She also has a Postgraduate course on United Nations Law and has supervised numerous undergraduate and postgraduate works.
9. She has also taught Company Law for over 12 years and is well-versed in its mechanics.
10. She has participated in numerous conferences and trainings worldwide.
11. She is a member of various professional associations including the Nigerian Bar Association, the Nigerian Law Teachers Association, and the International Federation of Women Lawyers.
